Treating Skin Pigmentation Concerns

Joan is a 45-year old woman. She works in White Plains and lives in Somers, New York with her husband and two children.

Sought treatment for:

  • Uneven skin pigmentation known as Melasma Hyperpigmentation

Joan began noticing dark patches on her forehead and cheeks with her first pregnancy. After delivery, and between pregnancies, she tried every cosmeceutical product she could find to lighten her skin — none were effective. Joan pursued more aggressive solutions, including multiple microdermabrasions, one laser treatment, and an intense pulsed light treatment. When these were not sufficiently effective, her dermatologist suggested that she needed an aggressive ablation (removal) with a CO2 laser because the melasma pigment was deep. Fearing the risks of scarring, infection, as well as the three-week downtime, Joan decided against that treatment approach.

Treatment

Now 45 years of age, Joan still seeks a solution. We started a series of chemical peels and suggested she try a combination product that contains a bleaching agent, with a retinol and low dose corticosteroid. In addition, she began a series of Omnilux photorejuvenation LED treatments after and in between peels.

Results

For the first time in almost 20 years, Joan is noticing a lightening of her melasma hyperpigmentation, which has allowed her to wear lighter, more subtle makeup. The light treatments have also helped the texture and tone of her facial skin.
