Treating Facial Lines

Brian is a 51 year old insurance agent. He lives and works in Westchester, New York.

Sought treatment for:

  • Nasolabial folds (parenthesis-like folds from nose to mouth)
  • Marionette lines (creases running from mouth corners to chin)
  • Forehead frown lines

Since turning 50 last year, Brian has become increasingly concerned about how he measures up to his younger colleagues. Brian started an exercise program and has trimmed down, but he is noticing that deep nasolabial folds and marionette lines have become more prominent. Additionally, frown lines between his brows are hardening his appearance.

Since “looks” play a key role in client-facing professions, like the insurance business, Brian’s objective was to look more youthful and friendlier with minimal down time and expense. He also wanted to achieve natural-looking results, so people thought he appeared well-rested and energized, as opposed to “having had work done.”

Recommended approach:

  • Botox Cosmetic for frown line correction
  • Wrinkle-filler, i.e., Restylane, Juvederm and Radiesse, for deeper creases due to collagen loss

Consultation, initial treatment and follow up

The safety, benefits and cost of Botox injections for Brian’s frown lines, and biocompatible wrinkle-filler products, like Restylane, Juvederm and Radiesse, for his facial creases, were explained. After the consultation, we chose to do Botox first, in the event that the frown lines were too deep for full reversal. This turned out to be the case. His follow up visit two weeks later revealed one central frown line had disappeared, but the other, while considerably softened, had not been completely corrected. The horizontal forehead lines were no longer apparent, and Brian appeared friendlier and less stressed. However, the one remaining frown line and the creases from the corner of his nose to the corner of his mouth, and the obvious collagen loss below the mouth corners still bothered him.

Final treatment

We injected Brian with two syringes of completely biocompatible wrinkle filler made by recombinant bacteria technology that lifted the remaining forehead line and softened the nasolabial creases. Filling the lines beneath the corners of his mouth, and placing a bead of filler at the mouth corners eliminated the mouth’s downturn. The procedure was relatively painless, using a smidgeon of injected Lidocaine and Lidocaine topical cream.

End result and maintenance

Today, Brian looks five to ten years younger, and has regained a more youthful, easygoing appearance. He was told that he might need more Botox in three to six months, and more wrinkle filler in eight to twelve months. On both visits he returned to work the same day and no one knew he underwent aesthetic treatment. One of his clients did happen to ask if he had been on vacation recently.
