BOTOX® Cosmetic for Jefferson Park, Peekskill, Yorktown Heights, Mahopac, and White Plains, New York
A BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment is a simple, non-surgical procedure that smoothes the deep, persistent lines between your brows that develop over time. Injections are given in the forehead horizontal lines, glabella (frown lines), and the outer corner of the eyes (crows feet). Results appear within 3- 14 days and can last up to 6 months. BOTOX® Cosmetic for Softening Expression and Rejuvenating the Upper FaceBotulinum toxin (Botox) is derived from the bacteria clostridium botulinum. It is a neurotoxin that temporarily interferes with the signaling process from a nerve to the muscles of expression. The effect lasts 3 to 5 months, but with repeated use the paralyzed facial muscle gets smaller, allowing the effect to last longer. Preparation of BOTOX® Cosmetic is very carefully supervised by American manufacturers. The sterility and dilution of each vial is uniform. It arrives at the physicians' office as a frozen powder and is stored in the freezer. When the powder is mixed with solution it has to be used within 8-12 hours or its effect diminishes. This adds to the cost of the procedure. BOTOX® Cosmetic is FDA approved for the treatment of glabellar lines (the frown lines between the eyebrows). BOTOX® Cosmetic became one of the most effective and safe means of softening facial expression and erasing static and dynamic facial wrinkles. It is most commonly used on the upper face "glabellar" frown lines, forehead lines and crows' feet lines at the corner of the eyes. It has some effectiveness in experienced hands in raising the corners of the mouth and diminishing chin and neck lines. In conjunction with Restylane, Juverderm, and other wrinkle fillers, a maximal decrease in fixed deep wrinkles is possible. Although the words Botulinum toxin sounds ominous, the complete safety of this very dilute solution has been proven by thousands of treatments and thousands satisfied recipients. Temporary partial eyelid droop, an occasional occurrence, is the most serious side effect, and can be prevented by judicious doses and cautious technique. It is imperative when treating forehead horizontal lines to also treat the glabellar area to prevent a lower brow line that hardens facial expression. Although dilution and techniques vary, New Horizons follows the recommendations of Jean and Alistair Carruthers, the pioneers in BOTOX® Cosmetic use for cosmetic purposes. We use an initial dose of approximately 30 units for women and 50 units for men for the glabellar area. Women typically get 10-15 units for forehead lines and 10-15 units on each side for crows' feet. The injections can be made more tolerable by prior use of a topical anesthetic, but many do not need this. A temporary bruise at the injection site can occasionally occur but is minimized by applying Arnica Gel after the injections.
